In 2016, India pledged to generate 50% of its total power from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 as part of the Paris Agreement's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions goals. In 2018, India's Central Power Authority set a goal of generating 50% of total electricity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. India has also set a target of producing 175 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2022 and 500 gigawatts by 2030.
