Chromatography is a technique for separating the constituents, or solutes, of a mixture according to the ratios of each solute distributed between a stationary phase and a stream of moving fluid, known as the mobile phase. The mobile phase can either be a gas or a liquid, but the stationary phase can only be either a solid or a liquid. Many different industries use chromatography technologies, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, diagnostics, genetic engineering, medication development, and water analysis.
