What you posted was actually very logical. But, think about this, what if you added a little content? I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your website, however what if you added a title that grabbed people's attention? I mean %BLOG_TITLE% is a little plain. You could peek at Yahoo's front page and note how they create article titles to get viewers to open the links. You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get people interested about what you've written.
