1 - Make your room taller, shorter or wider Narrow rooms, low ceilings, and hall-like rooms can have a completely different effect thanks to color choices: targeted use of color makes them appear taller, shorter, or wider. Make narrow rooms look wider: A darker wall draws attention to the "short" side of the room—and makes a narrow room feel wider (or a long room that's shorter!). In short, you can create depth in small rooms by drawing the eye with a wall painted in a different color in a room with light side walls. Complementary colors or darker shades of a color palette work well in this case. To make a small room seem taller, in addition to painting the wall in one color, you can paint your ceiling the same color.
